about the instructor
MY EDUCATION
I started in the fine arts, where I received a Bachelor’s in Arts at University of Washington in 2 years, and then I worked under a painting mentor for 3 years at the Georgetown Atelier with Tenaya Sims. After this, I began to teach at the same Academy I graduated from in addition to working as a professional artist for commercial clients. Due to my own experiences, I firmly believe consistent mentorship and small, dedicated classes are one of the best ways to develop your skill as an artist.
MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have taught art for the past 10 years with a broad range of student/client types, including:
-Paint and sip style beginner painting classes at local bars, parties, restaurants, with a range of 50-100 students at a time
-Institutions such as Gage Academy, Smart with Art, and Digipen Institute of Technology
-Private and corporate clients such as Wizards of the Coast and Amazon
-Volunteering with conventions and outreach groups such as CALA and BRIC
Now, I teach both with institutions and independently. With my individual courses, I control each step of the process, allowing me to cater to each students’ needs with the attention it deserves.

Either through this website at one of the shop links above, or you are welcome to email me at briifec@gmail.com for any questions prior to signing up!

On my part I will only cancel if:
-Less than 4 people have signed up in a class setting specifically
-An extreme emergency happens to me that prevents my ability to teach the class or mentorship, and we cannot find an alternative that works for the students; in that case a full refund will be processed
For students:
For classes, you may cancel up to 1 week before the class. However, after that threshold, you will only get a partial refund prior to the start of the class. Furthermore, if I have not heard from you about the cancellation 72 hrs before class, no refund can be processed.
For mentorships, it is a case-by-case basis, but generally upon purchasing there are no refunds. (But I am happy to work with you to reschedule/make the mentorship work) Please communicate with me before signing up for a mentorship!

Generally, yes. I will provide details depending on the class on what materials I would recommend, but I am happy to suggest substitutes for anything that is prohibitive price-wise.
-
Occasionally I will teach in person classes through another institution; if so, my email list will be the first to know. Please sign up below if you are interested in keeping up to date with my courses! :)

If the classes are not explicitly stated as for a certain age group, I will not be checking age and the course material will be suitable for ages 14+ up. Younger students may join these all ages classes, but it is usually recommended they be a mature younger teen or a parent be present to help with understanding, focus, and tech/material issues. Please reach out to me at briifec@gmail.com if you are at all uncertain!

Typically I run the classes on Zoom. If there is another platform it will be clearly stated.
Indefinite mentorships are a 1 on 1 experience scheduled on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis.
This is a program best fit for:
-Those who want a consistent mentor who is an accountability aid as well as an instructor.
-Young students that want extra art education outside of school.
-Those who have a long term project (year+) and/or want to space out meetings differently than 5 or 10 weeks.
A 60 minute session designed to look at your existing body of work and/or to consult about your next steps as an artist. Great for aspiring professionals, professionals looking for the next steps, or anyone stuck in their art journey needing a second eye.
